DICK DONE BROKEby D.J. Mendel
NOVEMBER 2-19, Wednesdays-Saturdays Preview Nov. 1 ($10)
The New York Times says D.J. Mendel's "feverish" performance "smacks of the Tom Waits and Charles Bukowski personas, steeped in a Southern moonshine marinade."
Time Out NY calls D.J. Mendel's performance "...brave [and] emotionally courageous"
L Magazine calls it "...a relatable and readily universalized account of powerlessness"
Treasured downtown performer D.J. Mendel revisits one of his pivotal original works, which premiered over 10 years ago on the New York stage. Dick Done Broke is a working class meditation on fatherhood, marriage and sexual frustration told through the colorful, boozed up character of Donny, a steelworker trapped in a suspended hallway. |

JANUARY 25-FEBRUARY 11, Wednesdays-Saturdays Preview Jan. 24 ($10)

EVELYNby Nellie Tinder
FEBRUARY 22-MARCH 10, Wednesdays-Saturdays Preview Feb. 21 ($10)
The New York Times: "Mixing elements of drama and musical theater as well as intimate realism and mythic tragedy"
Time Out NY: "supremely balanced weirdness...a paper-doll adventure told by a disturbed and brilliant teenager"
The Village Voice: "[Jonas'] ambitious new piece, Evelyn transposes ancient madness to a modern clinic, suggesting that our unruly psyches still chafe at civilized life's compromises."
A musical fever-dream delivered by a chorus of some of downtown's smartest new talent, Evelyn is an idiosyncratic genre mash-up and a haunting yet humorously parodic love letter to things past. Riffing on the classic stranger-comes-to-town-story, Evelyn uses Nellie Tinder's unique stylization of movement, music and text to explore the relationship of reality to artifice, even in the most dramatic of situations.
